Transferring to different state as a Police officer???
I am currently in police academy with the intentions to work somewhere in the philadelphia area or near burbs upon graduation. I have a lot of family in Florida near Clearwater and at some point will probably end up moving down there. I was wondering if anyone knows the procedures for police transfers. The state laws are obviously different..so would I have to go through academy again or some sort of Florida state required training course??
You will have to go through their application process, but if you are certified in one state, many states have lateral transfer tests that catch you up on the specific laws of that state. Sort of a mini- academy. Some agencies may require you to go through the entire academy again.
Contact the agency you wish to join and they will let you know the requirements.
